Test for vaginal fungal infections

Testing for yeast infections in vaginal secretions

Mycosis is not contracted from a partner or from dirty equipment, mycosis is already present in the body. The candida albicans yeast fungus is just one of many micro-organisms which exist on our skin, in our mouths, vaginas and intestinal tracts in a healthy balance with other germs. If this healthy balance is disturbed, the yeast fungus takes over and this can lead to a yeast infection. Around 75% of women are diagnosed with a yeast infection at least once in their lives. 40–50% experience regular yeast infections and, according to estimates, 5% develop chronic yeast infections. In case of symptoms such as acute itching, increased vaginal, often bad-smelling, crumbly discharge or rash in the external areas, the ELANEE Test for vaginal fungal infections is particularly suitable. The test for vaginal yeast infections is a point of care test to do at home for the qualitative detection of yeast infections on vaginal smear swabs within 10 – 20 minutes. It is an important advance on improving the diagnosis of women with Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC). The test for vaginal yeast infections is an immunoassay in which yeast fungi react along a test strip with anti-yeast specifi c antibodies, which are conjugated to blue latex particles and used as detector. During the process, the outcome binds to anti-yeast specifi c antibodies that are immobilized in the detection zone to get a line. The presence of a line on the test line indicates a positive result. The conjugated latex particles react downstream of the test line with other specifi c antibodies to create the control line. The presence of a line in the control region indicates that the test worked properly.
